Experience the perfect blend of Bhutanese culture, Himalayan landscapes, and gentle adventure on this short yet rewarding trek from Thimphu to Punakha. Ideal for beginners and nature lovers, this trek passes through pine forests, traditional villages, high mountain passes, monasteries, and fertile Punakha valleys. With moderate walking hours and comfortable camping, this itinerary offers breathtaking views without extreme altitude challenges—making it one of the best short treks in Bhutan.

Overnight: Campsite (2,800 m)

Your journey begins with a scenic drive north through the Thimphu Valley, passing the traditional settlement of Kabjisa Village. The trek starts through lush pine and mixed forests, gradually ascending along a well-defined trail.

Reach Sinchula Pass, where on clear days you are rewarded with panoramic views of Phajoding Monastery perched high above Thimphu. After trekking another 2 km, enjoy distant views of Talo Monastery and the road leading towards Punakha. The trail then gently descends to a peaceful forest campsite surrounded by nature.

Trekking Duration: 5–6 Hours
Overnight: Campsite (2,440 m)

Wake up to crisp mountain air and, weather permitting, stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and Phajoding Monastery. The trail initially follows uneven terrain, making for a slow but scenic walk.

After about an hour, you’ll spot Thinleygang Village, Talo Monastery, and parts of the Thimphu–Punakha highway below. Continue trekking through beautiful oak, rhododendron, and pine forests before arriving at your campsite in Dopshingpang, a quiet clearing perfect for relaxation and stargazing.

End Point Altitude: Chorten Nebu (2,600 m)
Overnight: Hotel in Punakha

After breakfast, begin a gentle descent through dense forests and open countryside. The trail leads you past traditional Bhutanese villages, terraced rice fields, and prayer flags, offering a glimpse into rural Bhutanese life.

After 3–4 hours of walking, reach Chorten Nebu, home to an ancient temple. From here, your vehicle transfers you to Punakha, where you can relax at your hotel and prepare to explore landmarks like Punakha Dzong and the lush Punakha Valley.
