This journey covers Western, Central, and Eastern Bhutan, blending scenic mountain highways, high-altitude passes, monasteries, remote valleys, camping by rivers, and authentic Bhutanese culture.

Ride through lush tea gardens, dramatic Himalayan passes like Dochula, Pele La, Yotung La, and Thrumshing La, explore sacred sites such as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Punakha Dzong, Bumthang temples, and discover untouched eastern districts like Mongar, Trashiyangtse, and Trashigang.

This tour is perfect for motorcycle riders, adventure lovers, photographers, and explorers seeking Bhutan’s most complete road journey.

Itinerary

Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Bagdogra Airport to Phuentsholing (175 km | approx. 4.5 hrs), passing through lush tea gardens, small towns, and green valleys. Complete Indian exit formalities at Jaigaon and enter Bhutan.

Meet your Bhutan tour guide, complete immigration and vehicle permits, and later visit the Crocodile Breeding Centre. Familiarize yourself with Bhutanese traffic rules and your motorcycle.

Overnight stay in Phuentsholing

Ride uphill into the Bhutanese Himalayas toward Paro Valley. En route, visit Kharbandi Monastery for panoramic views of Indian plains. Cross scenic towns like Gedu, Chukha, and stop at Chunzom, the confluence of Paro Chu and Thimphu Chu.

Enjoy waterfalls, winding mountain roads, and a relaxed ride into Paro. Evening free to explore local cafés and bars.

Today’s highlight is the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang). Hike through pine forests (approx. 2.5 hrs) to reach Bhutan’s most iconic spiritual site.

After descending, visit the National Museum of Bhutan, then ride along the scenic Paro Chu River to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital.

Explore Thimphu’s cultural landmarks including the National Library, Arts & Crafts School, Takin Preserve, and enjoy a bird’s-eye view from BBS Tower.

Visit Buddha Dordenma (Buddha Point), one of the world’s largest sitting Buddha statues, offering breathtaking views of Thimphu Valley. Evening free for shopping and nightlife. Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner experience.

Ride to Punakha via Dochula Pass, crossing roadblocks at Dochula and Lamperi as per schedule. On arrival at the riverside campsite opposite Punakha Dzong, enjoy a warm Bhutanese welcome with Suja, Desi, snacks, followed by riverside relaxation, barbeque, and campfire.

After breakfast, visit Dochula Pass (108 Druk Wangyel Chortens), Chimi Lhakhang (Divine Madman Temple), and the stunning Punakha Dzong, Bhutan’s former capital.

Post lunch, ride through Lobeysa local market and continue toward the glacial Phobjikha Valley, home of the endangered Black-Necked Cranes.

Ride across Pele La Pass (3300m), crossing the Black Mountains into Central Bhutan. Pass charming villages like Rukubji and Chendebji.

Lunch at Trongsa with views of Trongsa Dzong, then continue via Yotung La Pass (3400m) into Bumthang, often called the Switzerland of Bhutan.

Overnight stay in Chumey Village, Bumthang

Visit sacred temples Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, and the mystical Burning Lake (Mebartsho). Ride to Ura Valley, the highest and most picturesque valley in Bumthang, known for traditional Bhutanese village life.

Ride through forested roads and cliffs toward Thrumshing La Pass (3700m), the divider between eastern and western Bhutan. Tea break at Sengor Village, then descend to warmer regions like Lingmithang before climbing to Mongar.

Ride over Korila Pass, enjoying sweeping mountain views and dramatic switchbacks at Yadi. Visit remote Trashiyangtse, one of Bhutan’s least explored districts.

Return to Trashigang for rest and relaxation.

Ride southwards through winding mountain roads, descending gradually into subtropical Bhutan. Pass through Wamrong and reach Samdrup Jongkhar, the eastern border town.

Complete exit formalities at immigration.

Bid farewell to the Land of the Thunder Dragon as you exit Bhutan into India with unforgettable memories of an extraordinary Himalayan journey.
