Itinerary

Arrive at Paro International Airport, where your certified Bhutanese guide welcomes you. After immigration and baggage collection, enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s peaceful capital.

Visit:

  • National Memorial Chorten – A prominent spiritual landmark showcasing exquisite Buddhist art and architecture

Overnight stay in Thimphu

Drive through the spectacular Dochula Pass (3,100m) with panoramic Himalayan views. The forested slopes are excellent for birding, offering chances to see Laughingthrushes, Yuhinas, Barwings, Sunbirds, Crossbills, Rosefinches, and the elusive Fire-tailed Myzornis.
Descend into the warm Punakha Valley overlooking the Pho Chhu River.

Overnight stay in Punakha

Spend the day birding along the Mo Chhu River, one of Bhutan’s best low-altitude birding zones.

Possible Sightings:
White-bellied Heron, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Ibisbill, Forktails, Barbets, Woodpeckers, Flycatchers, Babblers, Minlas, Sunbirds, and Drongos.

Overnight stay in Punakha

Travel through warm broadleaf forests and climb toward Pele La Pass (3,400m). En route, explore Phobjikha Valley, winter home of the rare Black-necked Cranes.
Birdlife here includes Scarlet Finch, Eurasian Jay, Laughingthrushes, and Verditer Flycatchers.

Overnight stay in Trongsa

Cross Yotong La Pass (3,500m) and stop at Zugney Village, famous for traditional Yathra wool weaving.
Explore bamboo and conifer forests around Bumthang, searching for Parrotbills, Magpies, Grosbeaks, Choughs, and possibly even the Red Panda.

Drive east through Thrumshingla National Park, a biodiversity hotspot with dramatic altitude changes.

Birding Highlights:
Beautiful Rosefinch, Gold-naped Finch, Forktails, Redstarts, Sunbirds, and excellent chances of spotting Red Panda.

Overnight forest camp

Explore Namling, regarded as the best birdwatching site in Bhutan. The virtually untouched forests may reward sightings of Ward’s Trogon, Satyr Tragopan, Chestnut-breasted Partridge, and many other rare species.

Birding in the subtropical forests of Lingmithang, known for vibrant lowland species.

Possible Sightings:
Blue-throated Bee-eater, Racket-tailed Drongo, Red-headed Trogon, Nightjars, Prinias, Emerald Cuckoo.

Overnight stay in Mongar

Return westward across Pele La Pass, birding diverse forest habitats.

Look out for:
White-bellied Heron, Cutia, Scimitar-Babbler, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Leaf Warblers, Barbet, Minivets, and Ward’s Trogon.

Overnight stay in Trongsa

Drive back to Paro with birding stops along rivers and valleys.

Species include:
Ibisbill, River Lapwing, Dippers, Wagtails, Redstarts, Accentors, Pipits, Thrushes, and winter migrants.

Overnight stay in Paro

Visit Chele La Pass (3,950m), Bhutan’s highest motorable pass, for high-altitude species such as Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasant, Grosbeaks, Rosefinches, Nutcrackers, and Sunbirds.
Later, hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Lhakhang), Bhutan’s most sacred and iconic site.

 Overnight stay in Paro

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey, carrying unforgettable memories of Bhutan’s birds, forests, and mountains.
